The message and wisdom of the cross proves the foolishness of man’s wisdom

          In the book of 1st Corinthians, lies a profound message that I believe is very important for us to understand. This message speaks of truth. It points out the  foolishness of man’s logic in many things. The illogic of our logic if you will. The things we perceive to be important in life and the things we perceive to be ‘politically correct’, this message in scripture proves what we think we know to be foolish wisdom.

With the use of computers today we can research just about anything and get a multitude of information. If you have ever visited religious discussion forums you will see an unbelievable amount of pages debating one aspect of  life or scripture. There are  countless people who, by attempts of quoting historical and theological teachings insist that what they say is truth and what everyone else says is false or misunderstandings.

So with that, I rely not on my own understanding of truth but what is in a book that has been written over 1,500 years ago and continues to prove itself to be the truth of what we need to come to understand. The book of truth and life; God’s word to us through the Holy Scriptures. As the Apostle Paul reminds us in the book of Corinthians when he spoke to the church of Corinth;

    For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:

“ I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,  And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made  foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did  not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified,   to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both  Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of  God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1:18-25

The part of these verses that stands out the most to me and is so profound is where it says;  “Because  the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”

So then next time you read or hear of someone arguing a political point or telling you what you need to do to be successful in life, remember these words from our Lord. The message here is that we need Jesus and what He did for us to be the only guiding wisdom that matters and proves itself to not be ‘foolish wisdom’.
