Why does God allow suffering?

        This is probably the most common question I have been asked. First, we must realize that God suffers with us. He feels and knows our pain and suffering. Although God is in control of everything that happens and He does allows both good and bad things to happen, this does not mean, and it is not implied here that God arbitrarily and for no reason allows or causes suffering to occur in one’s life such as the suffering of child etc.. Our God is a God of Love. We must also realize that allowing something to happen is not the same thing as causing that thing to happen.

        Are there times that God may allow a suffering to occur in one’s life because of the necessity of His judgment?  Yes. Why?  Because His righteousness is based upon truth and if He needs to discipline or correct us, He will.  This does NOT mean however that every time something goes wrong in our lives it is a judgment. All of these things are very difficult for us to comprehend; That God would allow any suffering to occur for any reason. It is one of the mysteries that we as limited, finite creatures find hard to comprehend when we are talking about an unlimited, infinite creator.

        Be that as it may, I do have some opinions that make sense to me. Consider this. Who's sickness should God cure? Which accident should He prevent? If you answer "All of them", and that God shouldn't allow anyone to get sick or hurt, then think about a world that is perfect with no sickness, no disease. Sounds good right? Unfortunately, in this life there is one problem with that rational. It would be a perfect world filled with imperfect beings.  One of the reasons we have suffering is due to the fact that we are a fallen people. It is due to our sinful nature that we go through trials. Which is the main reason we need a Savior- Jesus Christ.

In the new life to come, things will be different. There will be no sickness, disease, or sorrow. Until then, know, that God is with you in all things. He will help you through these times of trials, if you ask Him.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Cor. 1:3,4

"For He has not ignored the suffering of the needy. He has not turned and walked away. He has listened to their cries for help". Psalms 22:24

Although the above verse speaks of God's willingness to help us, we must understand  He owes us nothing, No not even an explanation as to why bad things may be happening in our lives. He would be within His sovereign right to not do anything for us and let us survive by our own means. However, I believe if He did that, we would have destroyed ourselves a long time ago. This is my proof that He is a loving God, and although suffering is in this world due to many reasons, He truly has not "ignored the suffering of the needy".

        In the beginning, when God created Adam and Eve, I believe His intention was to have a perfect world. I say this because of what it says in the book of Genesis;

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. Gen. 1:31

If God saw everything “He had made was very good”, there could not have been anything evil in the world at that time. However, due to man’s decision, we have these trials to deal with. But in the everlasting life to come, that is what He promises; No sorrow or suffering.

"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Rev. 21:4

        Personally I believe, sometimes things happen due to human decisions in life. Also, sometimes things just happen due to the environment or, unfortunately there are times things just go wrong with our imperfect bodies. We also have free will that has results of both good and bad. If, for example a person overdoses on drugs, God certainly didn't make them do that.  We need to keep our FAITH, that He is with us, through all of this. There is hope. There truly is!

        You may have heard "suffering could be occurring to test our faith"?  Suffering means more than the suffering of sickness. We can be suffering because of decisions others make pertaining to their lives. For example, if your friend or maybe even a child is living a life that you absolutely do not agree with, this could cause you to suffer because you obviously care about them. Could God allow this to happen and use that to strengthen us in our faith in order to bring good into the other person’s life? Seems possible. Not all suffering with pain or sickness is absolutely meant to be a "test of faith" However when these things do occur, it is our FAITH in Jesus that will help us through these times.

"Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow". James 1:2-3

Jesus told his disciples, we would have to endure many trials in this world. But to have peace of mind by his sacrifice for us.

"I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world". John 16:33

        Lastly, consider this........when good things happen to you, such as, you are blessed with a child or grandchild, or maybe changes occur in life that gets you out of a bad environment, do you THANK God?....... No?.... then don't BLAME him when things go wrong. It amazes me how many people do not understand anything about God's nature, do not believe in God, and do not believe the bible is the truth, yet when things go wrong in their lives, they blame God. As much as our particular situation is devastating to us, we need to count our blessings. Do you think there are others that may be in a lot worse condition? Trust that God is with us through all of this. He has a plan for each and every one of us. He is in control of each and every one of our lives. Yes, even the sick. Pray. Ask Jesus to help you through these things and BELIEVE that your life will change dramatically.

        Take it from me. I had 'issues' in my life that I tried to change on my own. Finally, after the Lord doing enough in my life to make me realize I need Him, then me getting on my knees, asking forgiveness for my sins and asking Jesus to come into my life, to ask the Holy Spirit to teach me God's word.... Only after all of those things has my life changed in ways I can't possibly explain or make you believe. Having a bad day?  Thank the Lord. I do when I am having one, forced to deal with a 'trial' in my life. I thank him simply because.... without him.... it would be worse!  May God Bless you.
