What is Truth?

If you ask a group of people the simple question; "What is Truth?", you will get an incredible assortment of answers. Some of which may make sense and some may make you think the person is hallucinating. A search on Google to this question returned 23 million page results. Now that does not mean that there are 23 million answers on the Internet, but it shows the enormous amount of controversy on this simple question. Or is it a simple question?......What is truth? Even within the Christian community there is enormous debate as to what the correct biblical answer should be. The Bible has many scriptures that relate to this question. In fact one of the answers to this question is the fundamental reason for Jesus coming to earth;

 “......I was born and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth".

   John 18:37

Jesus also gives us meaning to real truth. The reason for being, for hope and a requirement for salvation;

 "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6

One thing for sure, all Christians believe, that truth is the opposite of the ultimate lie that entered this world with Satans' first deception. This deception is given in the book of Genesis when Satan spoke with Eve and convinced her that they "would surely not die" if they ate from the forbidden tree. This first initial lie, the cause of fallen man is part of the battle of truth and the lie that plagues us today.

 There are those that will tell you, well you have your truth and I have mine. There is no basis for either truths, just that it's a comfortable answer people give. Or you may hear that truth is what you make it to be, what ever "works" for you as long as it doesn't interfere with my beliefs it's ok. Well, if you read the scriptures you will see this is wrong. It's not truth. I have studied, read and heard from many theological sources as to their answer to this question. Some which are so complex, it's hard to put into words, so based on my understanding of scripture, I must agree with one answer I heard to this perplexing question, and that is;

     "Truth is the perception of reality by God as defined in His word, the Bible and shown to us by witness of  the Holy Spirit."

The truth of God, His word. The testimony of it given by Jesus through the Holy Spirit. If you really think about it and read God's word, you will find that it is the only source that is consistent with its answers. The remarkable thing about this answer is that it is given in a book that was written over 1500 years ago. It is an answer  with logic that can not be denied simply because it is the REALITY of  HIS WORD. The Essence of God Himself.
